I Smile, And I Smile, And I Smile
We are very pleased to be included on this months EDiLS Compilation CD put together by Liverpool label EDiLS. Not only is it a powersweet CD, but it has had a killer write up at the always righteous Audio Apocalypse.
“It’s a rather pertinent title for this latest compilation from EDiLS, as each listen will make you smile, smile and smile. It’s yet another feather in the cap of the Liverpool-based label and their associates, and this cheeky little connection of songs exhibits promise of yet more excellent releases in the future.
From the tropical taste that underpins opening track ‘Monte’ (by MERMONTE), I Smile, And I Smile, And I Smile provides one corking tune after another. MARRIED TO THE SEA’s ‘Mutiny’ is a lesson is momentous power-pop with real heart, whilst groups like DEMPSEY and SO SEXUAL take us back a decade or two with songs that drip in retro vibe (the good kind).
There’s a bit of something for everybody here. KUSANAGI, the rampant instrumental group, contribute with ‘Mirror Image’; the song sounding like a rickety Captain Beefheart number with the rough edges smoothed off and enhanced. O’ MESSY LIFE’s ‘Fear & Trembling’ is reminiscent of groups like PIXIES and NADA SURF, the sweet vocals routinely overpowered by drawn-out and fuzzyasallhell guitar work.
Another 40-yard wonder goal for EDiLS then. Bring on the next one!”
